BIKING IT FOR THE WILLOW TREE CENTRE
Two supporters of the Willow Tree Pregnancy Crisis Centre are getting active to raise funds for the organisation. Mair Vaughan (56) from Thornbury will be cycling 13 miles along the Avon Gorge Loop in the Bristol Bike Ride on Sunday 19 th June, while Stephen Clayson (32) from Yate is combining cycling with swimming and running in the Gatorade Big Half Triathlon in Stoke on 26th June.
The Willow Tree Centre has provided advice and support for those experiencing a crisis pregnancy, of following abortion, miscarriage or still birth, since its opening last November.
Says Mair: “A close friend helps with the Willow tree and I have been interested in her work. I have been doing a bit of walking and cycling to prepare for the ride and hopefully it will be a good sunny day.”
Stephen on the other hand has been training hard for his challenge, which includes a 2 km swim, 90 km bike ride and a half marathon run.
“I normally do two or three shorter triathalons a year, but this is much, much bigger,” he says. “I think the Willow Tree is a really good cause. They are doing a lot of work and trying to look at preventing teenage pregnancies through their ‘evaluate…informing choice’ presentation for schools.”
Willow Tree Centre trustee, Anna Blaber said the team were thrilled with Mair and Stephen’s involvement with fundraising. ‘It’s wonderful that people have caught the vision of the Willow Tree Centre and are supporting us in this way’ she said.
